BACKENGRILLEN, a new hardcore-jazz band from Umeå, Sweden, featuring members of REFUSED, releases their debut album on Svart in 2026. The band consists of Dennis Lyxz?n, Magnus Flagge, and David Sandstr?m, who have been active since the early days of REFUSED, and jazz player Mats Gustafsson. The album contains 5 songs produced/recorded in a short period of time based on their diverse creative backgrounds. BACKENGRILLEN's music is an ode to chaos and destruction. The basic concept is to play death/doom metal and noise rock riffs until they lose their meaning, and then destroy them to pieces like a greedy cat chewing up a small forest mouse. The music is overflowing with the self-loathing characteristic of the Västerbotten region, where the band members hail from. The record was written at the first rehearsal on Thursday, played live on Friday, and recorded on Saturday. So what you are hearing is raw, silly, instinctive music by skilled performers of hardcore punk, metal, free jazz, and noise. A second film is in the works. Less stupidity, more ugliness.
