Description:
Mikko Sidoroff (Pekka Sidoroff, b. 1985) composed *Vigil* (All-Night Vigil) as a work to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the *Kamarikuoro Krysostomos* (Chrysostomos Chamber Choir). This work combines pieces Sidoroff has composed previously with new compositions based on texts from the 2000 Swedish translation of the Bible and translations created by a working group led by Father Mikael Sundkvist. In keeping with his recent style, Sidoroff composed the work with an emphasis on the “Orthodox spirit.” It is the only *Vigil* sung entirely in Swedish. Sidrov studied conducting, voice, and oboe at the Helsinki Polytechnic and is active as a conductor of the Helsinki Cathedral Choir, Stadia Opera, and chamber ensembles. As a composer, he has worked on Orthodox church music, choral works, and art songs based on the poetry of Eino Leino. In 2003, he founded the Chrysostomos Chamber Choir in Kuopio to premiere *Panikhida*. *Panikhida* is said to have been written under the influence of Rautavaara’s *Vigil*.
