Telemann's Fantasies by Markus Kuikka, a leading viola da gamba player in the Finnish classical music world Telemann wrote 12 "Fantasies" for viola da gamba, which were published in 1735 as "Fantasies pour la Basse de Violle" in The collection was published in Hamburg in 1735 as "Fantasies pour la Basse de Violle". In 2015, a copy was found in a private library at Schloss Ledenburg in Osnabrück, northern Germany, and the following year, the musicologist and gamba player Thomas Fritsch The following year, the musicologist and gamba player Thomas Fritsch performed and recorded the piece for the first time. In these fantasias you can hear fragments of famous works of the time. There is no doubt that these works were written as gifts to fellow musicians and close friends of the family" (Markus Kuikka). Markus Kuikka Markus Kuikka studied cello at the Sibelius Academy and played principal cello for 30 years with the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra.In the early 1990s, inspired by the performances of a prominent Catalan viola da gamba player, he studied the lira viol repertoire under Veli-Marcus Tapio at the Sibelius Academy. 2009, he received his doctorate from the Academy. He studied privately with Alfredo Lessing and Jeremy Brucker, where he learned arpeggione and baritone. He founded the "Barocchi-Quopio Festival" of ancient music and served as artistic director from 2005 to 2016. He currently performs with the "Jaye Consort Helsinki" and teaches at the DocMus Doctoral School of the Sibelius Academy at the Helsinki University of the Arts. King International
