Description:

Baroque violinist Kreeta-Maria Kentala explores how music can be heard in a new "context" with the "Sonatas" by 17th century Italian composer Pandolfi and the "Polska of Southern Ostrobothnia. Kentala released the album "Side by Side" (ABCD 388), in which she performed J.S. Bach's "Partita for Solo Violin" and "Kaustinen's Dances" side by side. The album was selected as "Best Record of 2016" and "One of the Audience's Choice" by the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE) for its quality as "artistic music" and the novelty of the project, which looked at the "differences" and "connections" between "dances that are not Bach dances" and the local Kaustinen tradition and new dances from a player's perspective. The album was selected as one of the In his new album entitled "Polska-Pandolfi," he will once again pursue his interest in how music can be heard in a new "context" by juxtaposing the "Sonatas" of the 17th century Italian composer Pandolfi with the "Polska of South Ostrobothnia. Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi Mealli (1624-1687) was born in Montepulciano, Tuscany. He was court musician to Archduke Ferdinand Karl of Austria in Tyrol, and after the Archduke's death, moved to Messina in Sicily, where his two volumes of Sonatas for Violin and Passing Bass (Op.3 and Op.4), published in 1660, and Trio Sonata (Cioe Balletti The Trio Sonata (Cioe Balletti), published in 1669, is considered to be his only surviving work. For this album, five pieces from the two collections were chosen to combine with the Polska. La Castella, La Clemente, and La Merana, written for court organist Antonio Castelli, court castrato singer Clemente Anton, and court music director Antonio Merani, respectively, and dedicated to Josepho Bernabea and Father Bernadette Stella. La Bernabea" and "La Stella". The improvisational ingenuity of these pieces, here and there following the style of the time, as well as the similarities in Doric melody, dance rhythms, and folk melodic patterns and chords, invited Polska's interest to "put them together. All of the polskas played by the perimanni (fiddle players) of southern Ostrobothnia at wedding celebrations and other gatherings were played according to what Kentara "learned by ear. The tempi were slow, fast, and abrupt, seemingly thoughtful and simply plodding, passionate and furious. The polska on this album is performed in a variety of expressions. King International
