Recital - Don't Peep My Song Includes. Gustav Mahler(1860-1911)(Arr. by Frederick Neyrink(1985-)): Songs, "Five Romances by Rückert [Don't peep at my song / I breathed a faint fragrance / I was abandoned to the world / If you love me because of my beauty / at midnight]. Mathilde Vantenaar(1993-):There is so much sorrow in my heart - here it is as if there is only the darkness of night Mieczyslaw Weinberg(1919-1996):Improvisation and Romance (for string quartet) Ottorino Respighi(1879-1936):Sunset for mezzo-soprano and string quartet Gustav Mahler (arr. Frederick Neyrink):In Summer the Bird Turns (from "Songs of a Young Man") 47'27 Performers Virpi Raisanen (Mezzo-soprano) Danel Quartet [Marc Danel (violin), Gilles Mire (violin), Vlad Bogdanas (viola), Jovan Markovic (cello)] Recorded :April 16-19, 2023 at the Kielikki Stone Age Center (Juli-I, Oulunkari, Finland) Production, Recording Engineer, Editing, Mastering : Enno Maemets, Vieve Maemets The connection between the string quartet violinist Virpi Raisanen and the Danel Quartet began nearly 30 years ago at a Borodin Quartet masterclass at the Britten-Pears School in England. some 20 years later, during which time the singer's international career, Virpi reunited with the Danel Quartet at a music festival in Belgium. They performed joint chamber music concerts throughout Europe, where "singing and quartet are on equal footing" with the singer joining the string quartet as a "fifth member. This album was created with the aim of spreading the fascinating and profound world of "mezzo-soprano and string quartet". Mahler's "Five Songs by Rückert" and "The Bird Turns in Summer" from "Songs of a Young Man" were arranged by Belgian composer Frederick Neyrink (1985-). The arrangement is different from both the orchestral and piano versions in that it reveals a different world of "beauty. Matilde Van Tenaar's "Here is only the darkness of the night" (Holland) borrows lyrics from J.S. Bach's Cantata No. 21, "My heart is full of sorrow," and deals with the theme of "fear and despair.Commissioned to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Chamber Music Society of Nijmegen, it was premiered by Raisanen and the Brodsky Quartet in May 2021. Weinberg's "Improvisation and Romance" is the only work for string quartet that fills the gap between the sixth and seventh string quartets, composed between 1946 and 1957, a period during which Weinberg suffered harsh experiences, including arrest and imprisonment under the Stalinist regime. Divided into an "adagio" and an "andante," it is often said to be considered "Shostakovichian." This session recording was made in the hall of the "Kielikki Stone Age Center" in Vilppi's home town, the village of Juli-i in Northern Finland. (King International)
