Description:
Schumann's three violin sonatas for period instruments were composed between 1851 and 1853. In this album, Finnish musicians perform Schumann's sonatas on period instruments. Elika Marismaa studied at the Sibelius Academy with Kaija Saariketu and Jarkko Ilves, and at the Etzberg Chamber Music School with Ulf Vereen and Mats Setterqvist. concertmaster and is currently a freelance violinist. He is a member of the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, the Joussia Ensemble, and the Avanti! String Quartet. Emil Holmström graduated from the Sibelius Academy and also studied with Marie-Françoise Buquet in Paris. He is based in Helsinki. He is a member of the contemporary music "defunensemble", the Usinta Ensemble, and the Tristelo Piano Trio.He runs the Ristveto Collective, which performs on 19th century period instruments. The warm nuances created by the unvarnished gut strings and the sound of an 1862 Erard piano recall Schumann's time. King International
