A collection of works by Niels Martiensen (1963–), a leading figure of the generation raised on comics and science fiction. In his works, Batman takes center stage, and Snow White converses with her mirror. His Symphony No. 2 is a journey of the imagination to places he has never actually visited. It is a work that could only have been written in our modern age, where we can learn about such places through movies, television, and the internet—even without actually going there. Composed by a composer who has never visited Mexico, Arabia, or China—but who, with the help of Disney films and Clint Eastwood’s movies, wrote as if he had been there—this work depicts these countries in a style even more stylized than the real world. Be sure to also pay attention to the brilliant conducting of the renowned trombonist Lindberg. Naxos Japan
