The Danish music of Sven Erik Tharp's (1908-1994) lifetime can be described as a mixture of German late Romantic influences with some French Impressionism. It is not avant-garde, and may even be "dated" to some listeners, but it is filled with rich lyricism and enchanting melodies. The album offers a taste of his diverse musicality, from the passionate works of the 1920s to the mature works of 1956. Danish-born female pianist Tonya Lemaux is a talented individual with a wide repertoire ranging from Bach to contemporary music. Here, too, she plays unknown works convincingly. Naxos Japan
