Description:

Cala's masterpiece reissue! Borodin's Requiem! Cala Signum is a new label co-produced by Signum Classics and Cala Records, which was founded by Australian conductor Geoffrey Simon and has enjoyed a strong following for its original programs and high quality sound. Cala Signum reissues one of Jeffrey Simon's famous recordings with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Alexandre Borodin's "Requiem". The original of Borodin's secret "Requiem" is a piano piece, a collection of paraphrases (a collaboration of Russian composers such as Lyadov, Rimsky=Korsakov, and Cui) on a children's theme called Tati-tati (also known as chopsticks, since it can be played with two fingers). Rimsky=Korsakov, Cui, and other Russian composers). The catchy ostinato, arranged by Leopold Stokowski for large orchestra, and sung by tenor and chorus, "Requiem" was very popular when it was recorded for the first time in the world.Look out for Borodin's "Prince Igor" Suite, which includes his masterpiece "Dances of the Datan", and the charming "Small Suite" orchestrated by Glazunov.
