Description:
Chandler & La Serenissima New Recording! A collection of Italian Baroque instrumental works grouped by province! La Serenissima is a period ensemble founded in 1994 by Adrian Chandler, one of Britain's foremost Baroque violinists. La Serenissima has won two Gramophone Awards for their world premiere recordings of unknown and rediscovered Italian Baroque works by Vivaldi the Red-Haired Priest and other composers of the same generation, and this is the third release in the Signum Classics series. The previous album, "Extra Time" (SIGCD641), was a collection of previously unreleased CD recordings, but this album is all new recordings. The title "Settecento" (transliterated as "18th century") refers to a style of art, music, and architecture that emerged in Italy in the early 18th century. Adrian Chandler groups the styles by Italian provinces: Kingdom of Naples (Scarlatti, Mancini), Republic of Venice (D'Abacco, Vandini, Tartini, Vivaldi), and Papal States/Bologna (Brescianello), and reads the styles of each region. This is an interesting project.Guest musicians include Tabea Debs, a high-profile recorder player who won one of the most prestigious recorder competitions in 2019, the MOECK Competition, and was called a "charismatic virtuoso" by The Times.
