Thomas Ades (1971-) is a popular British composer, conductor, and pianist who has been called the second coming of Benjamin Britten. In Japan, he was selected as a juror for the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award 2020, and many of his works have been performed and recorded by renowned artists. This Beethoven anniversary album is unique in that it combines works by Irish composer Gerald Barry (b.1952), who was the composer-in-residence of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and who was greatly influenced by Beethoven.The second program features Beethoven's Symphonies Nos. 4-6, a viola concerto (commissioned by Britten Sinfonia) featuring Lawrence Power, one of the finest violists of our time, known for his numerous recordings for Hyperion, and the Grammy-nominated Adès conducted The Conquest of Ireland, a work for bass and orchestra featuring Joshua Bloom, an Australian-American bass singer who has performed with Gerald Barry in his opera "The Importance of Being Earnest".
