Whitacre, Eric (1970-)

Description:

Eric Whitaker's new recording of "The Sacred Veil" in its entiretyGrammy Award-winning composer Eric Whitaker (b.1970) is a contemporary American composer who enjoys wide popularity among professionals and amateurs alike, especially in the fields of choral music and brass band music in Japan. The Sacred Veil," his latest project with poet/lyricist Charles Anthony Silvestri, with whom Whitaker has collaborated many times in the past, is based mainly on Silvestri's poems, and features his wife Julie, who passed away in 2005 ( Julia Lawrence Silvestri), words bequeathed in her diary, and Whitaker's own text, and was premiered in February 2019 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles under the composer's own direction. A collection of 12 works written for mixed chorus (SATB), solo cello, and piano, with texts that speak of love, loss, healing, new beginnings, and life that Silvestri has had. These choral works are filled with Whitaker's charm and talent, from the beautiful and mysterious melodies to the warm and enveloping harmonies to the sharp and heartbreaking sounds. A long interview (about 23 minutes) with Whitaker and Silvestri is included at the end of the track. The Los Angeles Master Chorale, which sang beautifully at the premiere and on this recording, is the resident company of the Los Angeles Music Center and the Los Angeles Walt Disney Concert Hall, and regularly performs with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. It regularly performs with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and is one of the West Coast's premier professional choral ensembles. The solo cello, which plays an important role in the entire "Sacred Veil," is played by the renowned American cellist Jeffrey Ziegler, a former member of the Kronos Quartet. Tokyo M-Plus
