A collection of choral works by British composer Harrison Birtwistle (1934–), who turned 80 in July 2014. The album features six works, ranging from “Carmen Pasquale”—composed in 1965 when he was in his thirties—to “Moss Requiem” from 2012. The BBC Singers’ exceptional harmonies and remarkable adaptability to modern and contemporary works have already been demonstrated on recordings of Bingham and Rodney Bennett. High hopes are pinned on their expressive power in performing Bartwistle’s works as well. Tokyo M Plus
