Galicanthus performs Lassus’s swan song, “The Tears of Saint Peter.” The religious madrigal “The Tears of St. Peter” is the final work by Orlando de Lassus (1532–1594), a master of the Flemish school of the late Renaissance. Galicanthus is a British male a cappella group composed of renowned singers such as Gabriel Crouch, Nigel Short, and Christopher Watson, all of whom have performed with the Tallis Scholars, the King’s Singers, and Tenebres. They present Lassus’s “Swan Song”—which blends sacred and secular music into a single work—with harmonies full of the elegance and dignity characteristic of one of Britain’s leading male vocal ensembles.
