Richaud’s Requiem in Memory of Josquin! ■Featuring Christopher Bluearton, a tenor from New Zealand and the group’s first foreign member, the Kings Singers—now a new lineup of “six British gentlemen”—perform Richaud’s “Requiem”! ■Jean Richafort (c. 1480–c. 1547), a Franco-Flemish composer who demonstrated his talent as the successor to Josquin des Prez (1450/55–1521) within the Flemish School. Although many details of his career remain unclear, he was a “post-Joscan” genius who was active in the churches of Mechelen and Bruges, as well as at the courts of Brussels and the French Royal Chapel. His “Requiem,” which features borrowings of Josquin’s lyrics and melodies as well as imitations of his compositional style, is Richafford’s masterpiece, composed in memory of the great composer who was both the greatest master of the Flemish school and his teacher.
