The Hollywood Stars, a group formed in 1973 by rock and roll great and maverick Kim Fowley as "Los Angeles' answer to the New York Dolls. Fowley handpicked talented young musicians from the local scene on the Sunset Strip, starting with Scott Fales, singer of the band Adrian, Terry Rae (Flaming Groovies) and Ruben de Fuentes (Meat Loaf), The Hollywood Stars, with Gary Van Dyke and driver Mark Anthony on rhythm guitar, played their first show on December 17, 1973, headlining the Whisky A Go Go. This is a previously unreleased recording made in 1976. The band's clever, hooky songs, nonsensical guitar attacks, and playful swagger were well received by power pop lovers.It is a source that makes one wonder if the group's story might have had a very different ending if takes of "All the Kids on the Street," "I Can't Help It," and "Escape" had received radio airplay in 1976.
