Leah Senior is an Australian female folk artist whose voice combines elements such as Sandy Denny’s crystal-clear vocals, Vashti Bunyan’s gentle introspection, and double-tracked vocals reminiscent of Judy Sil. On her fifth studio album, *Pt. Roadknight* (2026), she incorporates the texture of 1970s British folk while using Victoria’s Surf Coast as a backdrop to delve deeply into themes of isolation, gentrification, and the journey to find a sense of belonging, all set against the backdrop of Victoria’s Surf Coast. Written while living in a sandstone beach cottage in Anglesea, Victoria, the album reflects the seasonal rhythms of coastal life—shifting between the vibrancy of summer and the solitude of winter—a duality that runs throughout the entire album. The freedom found by stepping away from Melbourne’s creative hub is tempered by the distance from the community, while the tranquility of the seaside stands in contrast to the visible wealth gap and vacant vacation homes amid the housing crisis. The pentangle-inspired lead single “Mothersong” opens the album with a flamboyant flute melody and rich harmonies. Meanwhile, “Softly, Once Again” fuses Beatles-esque pop sensibilities with an ironic critique of creative noise. “Two Weeks,” while reflecting on development and impermanence, evokes Nick Drake’s characteristic faint melancholy.
