The "Great Maestro Series" from the label "Estonian Record Productions," founded in 2001 by Estonia’s leading composer Peeter Vahi and producer Tiina Jokinen. This set (Volumes 18–19) features live recordings of *German Requiem* and *Romantic* by Neeme Järvi and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. Estonian maestro Neeme Järvi was active as a percussionist with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (formerly the Estonian Radio Symphony Orchestra) while studying at the Tallinn Conservatory. He later served as the orchestra’s chief conductor from 1963 to 1979 and again from 2010 to 2020, raising it to world-class standards and building a strong relationship with the ensemble. This release features a collection of live recordings from a concert held in 2019 at the Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn. The two-CD set features Brahms’s *German Requiem*, in which he fully draws out the expansive sound of the prestigious Latvian National Choir to create a flowing performance, and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4, “Romantic,” which races through at an astonishingly fast pace of just over 49 minutes (14’38”/10’11”/7’38”/16’53”). Yarvi’s Bruckner has garnered attention for his approach, which sets a relatively fast tempo even in past recordings, setting him apart from the many heavyweight interpretations. His original and intriguing interpretation remains intact in this recording of the "Romantic" as well. The extra time created by these tempo choices has been used to include the fourth movement, "Volksfest" (People's Festival), from the 1878 version of the "Romantic," as well as "Helgoland" sung by the Estonian National Male Choir.
