Description:
Austrian pianist/composer David Helbock returns to his roots in fusion jazz to create a sophisticated and melodic performance. David Helbock released his seventh solo project. David Helbock is a pianist/composer born in 1984 in Vorarlberg, Austria, who began playing piano at the age of six, studying with Nora Calvo-Smith at the Feldkirch Music School and with Paul Winter at the Jazz Seminar in Dornbirn. In 1998, he switched to the Conservatory of Music, where he also studied classical piano with Prof. Ferenc Bognar. He has released more than 20 CDs under his own name as a leader and many more as a sideman. Five of them have been released on the Berlin label Traumton, and since 2016 he has been an exclusive artist for the label ACT-Music.This new album, "Austrian Syndicate," pays homage to "Zawinul Syndicate," a disc that was recorded live in Austria in 1989 by Joe Zawinul (key), the most famous and most influential Austrian in the jazz world, while adding a new This is a projec with David Helbock's world view added. While returning to his own fusion-jazz roots and depicting how he evolved from there, the album also shows a new direction stylistically for Helbock. The band includes Rafael Preuschl on bass and ukulele, Herbert Pilker on drums, Claudio Player on percussion, and pianist Peter Madsen. The band's exhilaration in boldly taking on new sounds, utilizing all of their inspirations, is impressive.
