Description:
"The Musical Heritage of Flanders" is a series dedicated to reviving the region's neglected art music. The fifth installment features the Belgian composer Irène Fuerisson (1875–1931). Although her name lives on through a few art songs and the “Irène Fuerisson Prize,” awarded to young composers, opportunities to hear her works are rare, and this album marks their world premiere recordings. The reason her music fell out of circulation was not because it lacked value, but likely because she was unable to build a professional network due to her lack of formal musical education, and because publishers were reluctant to distribute her sheet music, as her tendency toward large-scale works and avant-garde style did not appeal to the general public. The four works included on this album date from his mature period around the time of World War I; each is a masterpiece, featuring deep and passionate music reminiscent of his compatriots Franck and Lecou. Violinist Guido de Neve was born in 1963. As a successor to the Franco-Belgian school, he is active in both modern and period instrument performance. Tokyo M-Plus
