The latest album by Linus Ross, a champion of Weinberg’s music. The naive sincerity of these early, previously unpublished works is truly moving! The latest album by violinist Linus Ross, who is passionate about the works of Weinberg. With the exception of the “Sonata for Two Violins,” written for Leonid Kogan and his wife, this album features a collection of his early works. It is also noteworthy that “Two Song Without Words” and “Sonata Fragment (Largo)” are previously unpublished works that Linus Ross premiered in 2017 and 2019, respectively, at the International Shostakovich Days held in Görisch, Germany. Both pieces are lyrical and melodious; while they evoke the influence of Mahler and Shostakovich, they are unmistakably full of Weinberg’s distinctive style. The earnest prayer in the “Sonata Fragment (Largo)” is deeply moving, evoking a sense as if the world were coming to an end. The Piano Trio, composed by Weinberg—who was also a master pianist—demands extremely advanced technical skill. Linus Roth’s partner, José Gajardo, delivers a magnificent performance, and the inclusion of Danjuro Ishizaka on cello adds further charm. King International
