Description:

Niquet's Requiem SeriesThe latter half of the Requiem Series by Niquet and the Flanders Radio Choir features works by Poulenc and Dezaincro, both 20th century composers. French, delicate, yet grandiose, Niquet's conductor, with his balance of intellect and emotion, makes these works sound supremely tender and heavenly in their beauty. Poulenc's Stabat Mater was composed in 1950 to commemorate the death of his friend Christian Bellard (painter and director), who died in 1949, but in the form of the Stabat Mater. It is a large-scale work performed by a soprano soloist, mixed five-part chorus, and three winds. The complex chorus weaves beautiful harmonies that shift from moment to moment, and the orchestral music envelops the chorus. Although Desangklo is best known for his saxophone works, he also wrote religious works. The Requiem (completed around 1953, first performed in 1963) was originally written for orchestra, but an organ version has survived.Although Frederik Dezanclos, Dezanclos' son, played the role of the player, this performance by the wonderful chorus of the Flanders Radio Chorus, trained by Niquet, is a rare and definitive recording of the work. <Hervé Nicquet studied music under Marguerite Long and Marie-Cécile Morin, who had studied with Ravel. From a young age, Niquet's attitude of always facing music by following the composer's intentions and always going back to the original was ingrained in his very bones, and he went on to study harpsichord, organ, piano, singing, composition, choral conducting, and conducting. After studying with Christie, he became a vocal coach at the Paris Opera. In 1987, he founded the Concert Spirituelle to perform French motets. The company began to perform religious works, symphonic works, and even operas. Today, he is the music director of the Flemish Radio Chorus and principal guest conductor of the Brussels Philharmonic. He also teaches younger students at the Schola Cantorum and the Conservatoire de Lyon. He is a recipient of the French Order of Arts and Culture, and in 2019 he will receive the German Record Critics' Prize (Deutsche Schallplattenkritik). King International
