Description:
Peter Wispelwey, the renowned Dutch cellist, recorded his third version of Bach’s “Suite for Solo Cello” in 2012, the year he turned 50! Recorded after a long hiatus following his first recording in 1989–90 and his second in 1998, this album features Suites Nos. 1 through 5 performed on a Baroque cello made by Peter Lombaerts in 1710, and for No. 6, a 5-string piccolo cello (maker unknown) built in the 18th century with gut strings and tuned to 392 Hz. Rather than emphasizing the lyrical aspects, this masterful performance is characterized by deep insight and a stronger sense of narrative. Tokyo M Plus
