World Premiere of Symphony and Recorder Concerto by Contemporary Dutch Composer Willem JetsWorld premiere of orchestral works by Dutch composer Willem Jets, born in 1959, with an emotionally rich and human sound world. The theme of "Symphony No. 1" is "The Cycle of Life." The opening and closing movements feature a mezzo-soprano voice with text from Goethe's poems "The Endless" and "The Sacred Longing. The content of Goethe's poem, which deals with reincarnation, and the "cycle" of the overall structure, which begins and ends with a song, are combined in this large-scale work, which celebrates human existence on a large scale. Reminiscent of Expressionist and late Romantic music, Jötz's emotionally rich use of sound, combined with an exploration of timbre not found in past music, conveys the universal theme to the listener with eloquence and conviction. The percussion coup de grace in the second movement is particularly impressive. Willem Jetz, who has already published more than 10 concertos, used a recorder as his solo instrument. With its limited volume and range, yet strangely appealing tone, Jetz felt "innocence, fragile purity, and the soul of a fragile child.The fragile and fragile purity of a child that Jötz, who recalls that his own childhood was not a happy one, heard in the sound of the recorder is heart-wrenching.
