Woodstock, the origin of rock festivals, was held in August 1969, and the worldwide sensation was one of the "most important events of the 1960s" in the history of popular music and subcultures, and will be remembered as a symbolic event of the American counterculture of the 1960s. This summer, RHINO RECORDS will release "SUMMER OF '69," a series of analog reissues of albums released in 1969, the year of the anniversary.Included in the lineup are a number of classic albums released in the vicinity of 1969 from artists who appeared at Woodstock, including the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, CS&N, and Arlo Guthrie. Arlo Guthrie was a folk singer who also appeared at Woodstock. Born the son of Woody Guthrie, he released his debut album in 1967. The title track, "Alice's Restarurant Massacre," the 18:34-minute long talking blues that sarcastically and amusingly recounts the illegal dumping of garbage and the draft inspection that actually happened to him, became a huge hit and one of his best-known songs. It became not only a huge hit, but also the inspiration for a film by Arthur Penn. Like his father, he has released many protest songs, and this best-of album of his hits and signature songs is now available in transparent green-colored analog.
