Description:
Another previously unreleased recording from the Grateful Dead's vast live archive is now available for the first time officially! From what can be called the early golden era of the Dead's live history comes a 3-CD set featuring the complete live performance at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis on December 10, 1971! From the time the Grateful Dead played their first show in St. Louis in 1968 and premiered "St. Stephen," fans there knew that the rich musical tradition of the Gateway City, St. Louis, had something special that brought out the best from the band. They knew that. The previously unreleased live recordings from that St. Louis show are now officially released from the Grateful Dead's vast live archive. FOX THEATRE, ST. LOUIS, MO (12/10/71)" is the complete recording of the Grateful Dead's December 10, 1971 show at the Fox Theater in St. Louis. This is the first official release of this previously unreleased master, which was restored, speed-corrected using the Planget Process, and mastered by Jeffrey Norman, a familiar face in the Grateful Dead's live archive series. The band at this time consisted of Jerry Garcia, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, and Bob Weir, with Keith Godchaux on piano. This lineup would continue for the next six months until the European tour in 1972. In the Grateful Dead's long live history, there have been only a few great periods that lasted longer than a year, and the transitional period between December 1971 and the fall of 1973 is particularly outstanding," said Grateful Dead archivist and author of "The Grateful Dead, Grateful Dead archivist and producer of the live archive series, David Lemieux, commented. This was a time when the Dead had established their own touring format (a few shorter, geographically limited tours a year) and were thrilling fans with music that clearly showed the many changes and transformations they had undergone in the six years since their formation. includes the intensity of "One More Saturday Night," the sadness of "Brokedown Palace," and the Dead's signature long jam numbers such as "The Other One" and "Dark Star. Pigpen's guitar runs fast on "Run Rudolph Run," a tribute to the band's favorite rock 'n' roller and St. Louis great, Chuck Berry. From the Grateful Dead's extensive live history, this is a live recording from 1971, which can be called the early golden age of the band. This is one of the most remarkable live recordings in the Grateful Dead's official live recordings series, which continues to be released in the best sound quality.
