Released in the summer of 1962, the song topped the R&B charts, reached No. 3 on the pop charts, and sold over a million copies, becoming a massive hit. That fall, the band released their debut album, *GREENONIONS*, named after the song. Released by Stax Records—the label that spearheaded the Southern soul sound of the 1960s—this album is widely regarded as a masterpiece that shaped the foundation of the Memphis soul sound. Memphis soul sound. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of this historic album, *GREENONIONS (DELUXE 60TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION)* is set to be released. Featuring all tracks newly remastered, this 60th-anniversary edition will be released in two formats: CD and 180-gram translucent green (onion) vinyl. This 60th-anniversary edition features all 12 tracks, newly remastered specifically for this release. It also includes newly written liner notes by American author David Ritz, who conducted interviews with the band’s founding members, Booker T. Jones and Steve Cropper. The popularity of the song “Green Onions” shows no signs of waning and continues to be highly acclaimed. From the Blues Brothers to Count Basie, and from Deep Purple to Mongo Santamaria, countless artists have covered this funky, soulful instrumental, and the track has been featured in various movies and television programs. In 2012, the Library of Congress added it to the National Recording Registry, and in 1999, the Grammy Awards inducted it into the Grammy Hall of Fame. While the physical single sold over 1 million copies at the time of its release, the song has also amassed 200 million streams to date, continuing to shine as a true timeless classic.
