THE CURE is a Sussex NW/Goth rock band that has led the English rock scene with its post-punk and dark new wave sensibility, led by ROBERT SMITH. Since their debut in the late 70's, they have rocked both the UK charts and indie clubs with singles such as "Boys Don't Cry" and "Primary", and have been described as the originators of gothic rock. The band performed at CAPITOL THEATRE in Sydney, Australia in August 1981 during their "WORLD PICTURE" tour. The Australian FM station aired this recording. The cold tone of the FAITH period collides with the impulse of the live band, and the tension of the young ROBERT SMITH and his friends traveling around the world in a tour bus, unlike the later period of the big arena period, is still captured. In 2022, it was reissued in analog form on limited press color vinyl, becoming a collector's favorite live archive of the early days of THE CURE. The band opens the show with "THE HOLY HOUR," which opens with a heavy, slow beat and a sinking bass; "PRIMARY," with its unsettling guitar cutting and clashing bass; and "JUMPING SOMEONE ELSE'S TRAIN," which runs with the speed of the post-punk era, The song "JUMPING SOMEONE ELSE'S TRAIN," which runs at the speed of the post-punk era, "CHARLOTTE SOMETIMES," with its sad and sharp melody at the end, and "FOREVER," which stretches out in an improvisational manner, are all representative of the repertoire at that time in 1981. The simple ensemble of the trio, including "IN YOUR HOUSE," "OTHER VOICES," and "KILLING AN ARAB," is conveyed with solid power over the Sydney FM airwaves. This is a must-have for fans who want to relive the raw live performance of THE CURE, which was at the borderline of post-punk and gothic music.
