Description:
This is the ECM debut of Kit Downes, a hot young British jazz pianist who participated in 2015's "Time Is A Blind Guide". This is not a "jazz" piece, but it could only have been made by an improviser with a certain sense of style. Downes' earliest musical experience was as a church organist, and he has returned to the instrument in recent years, exploring its sonic possibilities and idiosyncrasies in both melodic and textural improvisation. In November 2016, producer Sun Chung recorded with Downes at three churches - Snape Church in Suffolk, Union Chapel Church in Islington, London, both Baptist churches, and Bromwell St. Edmund's Church - in very different acoustic spaces, each with an organ.
