Description:
The long-awaited first collaboration between pianist Julia Hulsmann and singer Theo Bleckmann. ■This time, they tackled Kurt Weill. The setting features Weill works, including the universally known "Mack The Knife," "Speak Low," and "September Song," plus poems by Walt Whitman, a poet Weill cherished, and three original compositions by Julia. ■Inspired by the 2013 Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau, Germany, this project began and was finally recorded in Oslo in June 2014, produced by Manfred Eicher. This work significantly elevated the level of Hulsmann's group and clearly expanded the imaginative possibilities for the players. ■British trumpeter/flugelhorn player Tom Arthurs debuted on Hulsmann's previous album, 'In Full View', released in 2013. On this album, he is featured throughout, his trumpet and Bleckmann's vocals adding color to the entire work.Theo Bleckmann has participated in Meredith Monk ensemble projects like 'Mercy' and 'Impermanence', but this is his first ECM release as a jazz singer! A must-listen!
