Since the release of *Kamikaze* in 2018, this album, *MusicToBeMurderedBy*—their 11th overall and their first in a year and a half—is inspired by the 1958 album of the same title, *MusictobeMurderedBy*, released by Alfred Hitchcock, one of the 20th century’s most iconic film directors, in collaboration with composer Jeff Alexander. The opening track “Intro” and the closing track “Outro” each sample the spoken word segments from “MusictobeMurderedBy” and “The Hour of Parting,” respectively, which were included on Hitchcock’s original album; the artwork is also modeled after the cover of that album. *Music to Be Murdered By* features a host of star-studded guest appearances. These include Ed Sheeran, who also collaborated on “River” from the 2017 album *Revival*; up-and-coming female rapper Young M.A.; longtime ally Royce da Five-Nine; and 90s legends Black Thought and A from The Roots, Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest, multi-instrumentalist Anderson .Paak—who spans a wide range of styles—and rapper Juice WRLD, who passed away suddenly at the age of 21 in December 2019, are among the diverse lineup that has generated significant buzz. Eminem released the music video for the track “Darkness” simultaneously with the album’s release. This track, which samples Simon & Garfunkel’s classic “The Sound of Silence,” evokes the mass shooting that occurred in Las Vegas in October 2017, claiming 58 lives. At the end of the video, the text “WHEN WILL THIS END? WHEN ENOUGH PEOPLE CARE” appears on screen, delving into the increasingly serious issue of gun control in the United States.
