Although this marks his first collaboration with 9th Wonder and others, there’s no standout track like the reunion with Diddy on his previous album, *Love & Life*. However, the quality of the songs on this album is more consistent than the buzz surrounding it. Longtime fans might even shed a tear or two, With “MJBDaMVP”—where iconic phrases from past songs are woven one after another into the instrumental of “Hate It Or Love It”—serving as the midpoint, the first half features a string of excellent upbeat tracks, including the title track featuring “The Champ” and “Can’t Hide From Luv,” driven by Jay-Z. The second half is dominated by more subdued tracks, such as Raphael Saadiq’s take on Aretha Franklin and Curtis Mann’s “I Found My Everything” and a cover of U2’s “One” featuring the band members themselves. As a result, while the album doesn’t offer a wide variety of styles, its grounded sound production and Mary’s sincere, raw vocals are what make this album special. To put it another way… this is the album most likely to get you hitting “repeat” right after *My Life*.
