Tony Tornado's memorable debut, released in 1972, is finally being reissued in analog. Influenced by Jimmy Cliff and James Brown, Tornado's sound, which simultaneously sounds "black pride" and "Brazilian reality," radiates a presence and explosive power on par with Chin Maier. Psychedelic funk grooves and orchestral soul are fused together, and songs such as "Torniente," "Mané Beleza," and "Tornado" contain the same fervor and liberating energy of the time. In Brazil in the 1970s, Banda Black Rio, Cassiano, Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil, and others successively adopted soul funk and established a black cultural identity.
