Even though this is the first album where Taylor wrote every song herself, it follows the same direction as her previous two albums. She showcases her signature pop-country sound one track after another, creating a nice contrast with the distinctly Evanescence-esque “Haunted” and the upbeat power-pop track “Story Of Us”—and her consistency is nothing short of extraordinary. And she’s already conquered the U.S. charts with ease. Her voice isn’t particularly distinctive, she doesn’t have a huge vocal range or powerful projection, and she isn’t exactly a conventional beauty—yet for some reason, you can’t help but be drawn to her; or rather, that’s precisely why she feels strangely relatable. I mean, even when she uses her own gossip—like catfights over guys, the Kanye drama, or cringy breakup stories—as material for her lyrics, it doesn’t come across as sleazy at all; on the contrary, it just makes you want to root for her.
