Description:

Charles Lloyd's new project "Trio of Trios" consists of three albums by three trios. Charles Lloyd, a well-known jazz legend, continues to influence many artists even at the age of 84, and has produced many albums in recent years. Trios of Trios" explores the depths of Lloyd's exploration of improvisation through three trios with different personnel and compositions: guitarist Bill Frisell and bassist Thomas Morgan on the first album "Trios: Chapel," guitarist Bill Frisell on the second album "Trios: Ocean," bassist Thomas Morgan on the third album "Trios: The Ocean," guitarist Bill Frisell on the fourth album "Chapel," bassist Thomas Morgan on the fourth album "Trios: The Ocean. Trios: Ocean" with guitarist Anthony Wilson and pianist Gerald Clayton, and the third, "Trios: Sacred Thread" with guitarist Julian Rage and percussionist Zakir Husain.Trios: Chapel is a live recording of a performance that took place in December 2018 at Coates Chapel in San Antonio. Lloyd invited Bill Frisell and Thomas Morgan to this concert, as he felt that the acoustics of the chapel did not lend itself to a drum and percussion lineup. After that, the trio did not perform together for a while, but in December 2021, the trio came together again in Berlin. As Lloyd himself says, "The first performance we gave as a trio in 2018 will always remain magically in my memory," and for him, playing with this trio was a special experience that led to this release. Blood Count," which is now available for preorder, is the Billy Strayhorn-penned track that opens the album. Lloyd's mother ran a boarding house in Memphis, and Lloyd's childhood memories of the touring big bands that stayed there, especially the musicians of the Jimmy Lunsford Band and the Duke Ellington Orchestra, are vivid, especially his encounter with Johnny Hodges when he was young. He said that his encounter with Johnny Hodges in his younger days was particularly vivid.
