This is a 2-CD set. Mahler once said that his symphonies encompass “the whole world,” and nowhere is this vision more fully realized than in his monumental Symphony No. 3. With a running time of approximately 100 minutes—the longest in the standard symphonic repertoire—it unfolds as a magnificent journey that begins with the awakening of primeval nature, passes through flowers, animals, humans, and angels, and culminates in a majestic hymn celebrating love.
