The Great Book of Flute Sonatas" is a major project by the leading Hungarian flutist Gergely Itzesche. This series is an excellent project to cover the essential repertoire of flute sonatas, and is composed of seven collections, each with a different theme, following a chronological order. The sixth collection focuses on "Czech and American" and includes flute sonatas by E. Schulhoff, Martineau, Feld, Muchinsky, and Lieberman. Czech composer Erwin Schulhoff was the nephew of the great 19th century pianist Julius Schulhoff. He is best known for joining the German Dadaist group after World War I and introducing the music of the New Vienna School of Music. Although he left more than 200 works during his lifetime, he was branded as a decadent musician by Nazi Germany and died in 1942 at the Würzburg prison camp.His Flute Sonata, which he composed in his thirties, is one of his best-known works.
