A tribute album to the master Frans Brüggen. Beethoven & Krupinski in Warsaw! On August 13, 2014, Frans Brüggen (1934–2014), a master of early music, passed away in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This tribute album, dedicated to the late maestro by Poland’s NIFC (Chopin Institute), features live recordings from Warsaw in 2005 and 2013 by Brüggen and the 18th Century Orchestra! Brügghen and the 18th Century Orchestra were invited to perform at the landmark first edition (2005) of the “Chopin and His Europe” international music festival, organized by the NIFC. On September 3, 2005, Beethoven’s “Eroica,” performed at the Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall, is a precious record tracing the journey of Brüggen and the 18th-Century Orchestra—a “miracle in Warsaw, Poland” that would later lead to the 2011 Rotterdam live performance. “The Battle of Mojaisk” by Karol Krupinski (1785–1857), a 19th-century Polish musician also known for conducting Chopin’s debut concert in Warsaw in 1830, is the final recording conducted by Brüggen. The message left behind by Brueggen—who has actively engaged with Chopin’s music in recent years and produced many masterful performances—will be shared with the world by the NIFC. Tokyo M-Plus
