Live from the “Chopin and His Europe International Music Festival” 2019! An opera recording project by Fabio Biondi & Europa Galante, released on the National Chopin Institute of Poland’s (NIFC) in-house label. Following “Halka” (NIFCCD082083) and “The Raftsman” (NIFCCD086) by Polish National School composer Stanisław Moniuszko, the third installment in the series features Giuseppe Verdi’s opera *Il Corsaro*! Biondi & Europa Galante, Podlasie Opera previously generated a great deal of buzz with its release of Verdi’s *Macbeth* (OGCD923411/GCD923411) on Glossa, and this new Verdi opera is sure to showcase their passion for these lesser-known works once again. “Il Corsaro” is one of Verdi’s early operas, premiered in 1848, the year following “Macbeth.” Like many of Verdi’s other operas, including *La Forza del Destino*, the libretto was written by Francesco Maria Piave. Although *Il Corsaro* is a lesser-known yet magnificent work, listeners will rediscover it through Biondi’s exceptional energy and musicality, combined with the superb sound achieved by the first-ever recording using period instruments.
