Having made a name for themselves by winning the 2008 Munich International Music Competition, they have gone on to win major awards for emerging artists, including a nomination for the ECHO Rising Star Award (2010), selection as a BBC New Generation Artist (2012), and the Bolletti-Buitoni Foundation Prize (2014)—major awards for young artists. Andrzej Panufnik (1914–1991) was a 20th-century Polish composer, conductor, and pianist. In recent years, his daughter, Roksana Panufnik (b. 1968), has also become widely active as a composer. This recording features Panufnik’s major chamber music works, including all three of his string quartets and “Homage to Chopin.” “Homage to Chopin (Hommage à Chopin)” was composed in 1949 on commission from UNESCO to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Chopin’s death; the original version is scored for “soprano and piano.” Panufnik later arranged it himself for “flute and string orchestra,” but on this album, it is performed in the version for “flute and string quintet.” Tokyo M-Plus
