Description:
Italian virtuoso Lorenzo Coppola! Weber's Clarinet Concerto No. 2! This album, released by the Polish National Chopin Institute's own NIFC label, combines the clarinet concerto written for Weber's friend and clarinet virtuoso of the time, Heinrich Behrmann, with symphonic works by Elsener and Mozart. The orchestral works by Joseph Elsener, Carl Maria von Weber, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on this album were written in the 18th and 19th centuries during the Classical (Mozart, Elsener) and early Romantic (Weber) eras, and Chopin From a young age, Chopin became familiar with the music of these composers, and they had a great influence on him, especially during his Warsaw years. Although only about one generation separated Chopin from the Classical School, it was like an epoch because of the historical background and the dynamic transformation and intense development of music at that time.Weber's Clarinet Concerto No. 2, the main work on the album, is one of three concertos composed in succession in 1811 and expresses a romantic melancholy, virtuosity, and splendor. Like all of Weber's clarinet works, it was written for the master clarinetist of the day, Heinrich Behrmann, and was premiered and toured throughout Europe with Weber conducting and Behrmann playing solo. The soloist of this work, which is one of the most important pieces in the clarinet repertoire, was born in 1969 and studied with Eric Hoplich at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, and has frequently performed with leading orchestras of the contemporary classical music scene, including the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Les Arts Florissants, and La Petite Band. Since 2004, he has been teaching historical clarinet at the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya (ESMUC) in Barcelona. Tokyo M-Plus
