A compelling work from the accomplished trombonist Wojciech Jeliński, a graduate of the Karajan Academy. A magnificent program surveying Polish trombone music! A meticulously crafted program by the young Polish trombonist Wojciech Jeliński, focusing on composers from his homeland. Opening the program is the "Fantasy" by Stojowski, a student of Paderewski whose work has seen a significant reappraisal in recent years. Written as an examination piece for the Paris Conservatoire in 1905, this work is known as a valuable addition to the trombone repertoire, and a recording by a Polish performer lends it particular persuasiveness. Freeman's "Concerto No. 2," composed in 1969 during his later years, retains a strong Romantic flavor. The program also features a collection of short pieces for brass trio by the neoclassical master Tansman, and Paczorekiewicz's miniatures written for four trombones, showcasing the instrument's diverse expressive capabilities through varying ensembles. The standout piece is the "Trombone Sonata" by composer Ewa Fabiańska-Jelińska, who is also Jeliński's wife. Written in 2017, this new work masterfully blends contemporary language with a lyrical sensibility. Wojciech Jeliński graduated with honors from the Poznań Academy of Music before studying under Christoph Gessling (Berlin Philharmonic) at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. From 2016 to 2018, he honed his skills as a scholarship student at the Berlin Philharmonic Karajan Academy. He currently serves as Principal Trombonist of the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra while also teaching the next generation at the Poznań Academy of Music. Tokyo M Plus
