The first Polish female composer to achieve worldwide fame. A rare collection of piano works by Grażyna Bacewicz! A collection of piano works centered on the “Sonata” by Grażyna Bacewicz (1909–1969), the first Polish female composer to be recognized as a world-class musician both in Poland and abroad, who wrote a new chapter in the history of Polish music. Bacewicz studied composition under the legendary teacher Nadia Boulanger at the École Normale de Musique de Paris and demonstrated her exceptional talent in various capacities, including as a violinist and concertmaster of the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since she was an accomplished violinist herself, her works involving the violin are frequently featured; this “Collection of Piano Works” is therefore quite rare. The early, unnumbered “Piano Sonata,” composed in 1930, and the “Concert Etudes,” composed in 1949, are receiving their world premiere recordings here. Joanna Sohaczka, a female pianist from Muszana Dolna, Poland, has made her debut at venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and the National Philharmonic in Warsaw. Selected for the “YoungPoland” program by Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2020, she is a talented pianist regarded as a rising star in her home country. Tokyo M-Plus
