A collection of chamber music works by Józef Elsner (1769–1854; pronounced “Josef Elsner” in German), a German-Polish composer who was the teacher of both Chopin and Moniuszko. Perhaps because he is so widely known simply as “Chopin’s teacher,” opportunities to experience Elsner’s music are few and far between; yet his works—with their refreshing Classical-era charm and a style that bears a certain resemblance to Mozart—are all masterpieces worthy of rediscovery. Leading this collection of Elsner’s works is violinist Józef Korinek. He served as a violinist with the Polish Chamber Orchestra and Sinfonia Varsovia from 1978 to 2003 and has appeared in over 2,500 concerts; he is one of Poland’s leading figures in the field.
