Description:
Atterberg's string orchestra works! World premiere recording of the Double Concerto! Music for string orchestra by Atterberg performed by the Örebro Chamber Orchestra (Swedish Chamber Orchestra). Kut Atterberg was born in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1887. He was almost entirely self-taught in composition, and pursued his musical activities while working as an electrical engineer at a patent office. He composed nine symphonies, including No. 6, which won first prize in a composition competition held on the 100th anniversary of Schubert's death, as well as orchestral works such as suites and concertos with incidental music. His symphony No. 3, "West Coast Paintings" (Chandos CHAN10894), suite No. 3 (CHAN5116), and cello concerto are among his best-known works. The Concerto for Violin, Cello (or Viola) and Strings is from 1960. The weather turned stormy: "On August 14, rain was accompanied by thunder, and hailstones covered the ground in white. This helped me to compose the double concerto: ......". A single-movement work in alternating G minor and C major. First recording. Suite No. 5 "Barocco Suite" is a suite of six baroque dances of incidental music composed for Shakespeare's "The Winter's Tale" to be performed at the Royal Drama Theatre. The Sinfonia for Strings was composed as a "string quintet" for two violins, viola, and two cellos, and is performed by a string orchestra with double bass. It was premiered by the string quintet at the Musikhochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Dresden in 1955. Tord Svedlund is a Swedish conductor. He has conducted the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra in Weinberg's symphonies and concertos for the Chandos label. Ams Sjöstin Andersson, who plays the solo in the double concerto, is guest concertmaster of the Örebro Chamber Orchestra and violinist with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic. Mats Levin is the solo cellist of the Örebro Chamber Orchestra. Tokyo M-Plus
