Description:
The fourth volume of the "Wiesau Retrospective" contains recordings of the small works that Wiesau loved to play, along with Bach and Buxtehude. [The religious and secular works by Cabezon, Sverink, and others on CD 1, as well as secular pieces of unknown authorship, were recorded at Fleselixborg Castle, the former residence of King Christian IV, by recording engineer Villemoes, who approached Wiesau for a recording session. The organ in the chapel of the castle was built by Esaias Compenius in 1612. It is one of the few instruments that remain largely intact in its original state. The session was a "nightmare," as recorded in "Sound," plagued by the mechanical noise of the organ and the surrounding traffic noise. This recording offers a glimpse into the art of professionals who dealt with these conditions. The pieces by Pachelbel, Dandrieu, and Marchand were recorded at the Dikhub church in Helsingwur, which has a two-level keyboard and independent pedal organ built in 1978 by Gona Fabryshus Hustes. The first half of [CD2] is music from the Baroque period. The organ in the church of Jägersborg is a baroque instrument built by Marksen with his ideas before Wiesau became the church's organist. The two works by Ropartz (1864-1955) are live recordings. One of the concerts was given in the United States when Wiesau was invited as a visiting professor. The recital is at the Royal Lane Baptist Church in Dallas, which has a 22-stop, two-level keyboard and pedal organ built by John Fort in 1966. This recording made a splash when it was released on LP in combination with Carl Nilsen's "Commotio" (DACOCD 801-830), and was presented to Queen Margrethe II. This is a rare recording that shows a different side of the organist who mastered Baroque music. Tokyo M-Plus
