Discover American Piano Music! The theme for the second installment is “Night”! Launched in 2016, the ambitious new series “Anthology of American Piano Music” is a wonderful project that unearths underappreciated or forgotten masterpieces from American solo piano works spanning the 18th to the 21st centuries. The second installment, titled “Music of the Night—American Nocturnes,” is a collection of works centered on the theme of “night,” including nocturnes. Cecile Ricard is a Filipino pianist known for her collaborations with Alban Gerhardt on Hyperion and praised by *The New Yorker* as “a pianist’s pianist.” On Danacord, she has also performed lesser-known works by Ornstein and Gottschalk as part of the Husum Castle Music Festival Live Series. The program ranges from Krumm’s “Eine Kleine Mitternachtsmusik” to works by Beach, Griffes, Gottschalk, Barber, Ornstein, Chadwick, and Amram’s “Little Nocturne.” Many of these are little-known miniatures being recorded for the first time using modern digital technology.
