Bo Holten & Flanders Radio Choir! A collection of lamentations including Holten's own compositions! After studying musicology at the University of Copenhagen and bassoon at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Bo Holten of Denmark worked for several years as a music teacher and critic for a Copenhagen newspaper before founding the vocal ensemble Ars Nova in 979. Working variously as a conductor and composer, he played a central role in the musical life of Copenhagen and Denmark. 1996 he founded the vocal ensemble Musica Ficta. 1990-2006 he was guest conductor of the BBC Singers, 2008-2011. He was Principal Conductor of the Flanders Radio Choir in Brussels from 2008 to 2011. His recording with the Flanders Radio Chorus of his own choral works, The Circle of Venus (Dacapo 8.226062), demonstrates the variety of styles in Holten's work and has received high praise. His new album, conducted by the Flanders Radio Chorus, focuses on songs depicting "sad moods" by various composers.The program consists of André Previn's "Vocalise" for soprano, cello and piano and Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise" for cello and piano in between the choral works. Cellist Luc Toten is principal cellist of the Brussels Philharmonic. Pianist Stéphane de Mey is a soloist and chamber musician who teaches at the conservatories in Liège and Rotterdam. The two also play together in the "Trio Portici". The solo voices are sung by singers of the Flanders Radio Choir. Hilde Fenken and Sara van Moll also sang solos in "The Circle of Venus.
