This is one of Leroy Hutson’s most distinctly urban soul-influenced works! He took over as lead vocalist for The Impressions in 1971, replacing Curtis Mayfield, and after recording two albums with the group, made his solo debut in 1973! *Closer to the Source*, his sixth album released in 1973 by *Curtom*—the label behind numerous New Soul masterpieces—is now available in a fully remastered edition! It begins with the sweet ballad “In The Mood,” followed by the masterpiece “Where Did Love Go,” the danceable and uplifting “Get To This (You’ll Get To Me),” the album’s title track and exhilarating urban soul tune “Closer to the Source,” and the mellow “Heaven Right Here”—a self-cover of a song originally written for the American R&B vocal group The Naturals. The CD version includes two additional tracks—“In The Mood” and “Reality”—in addition to the original album tracks.
