Description:

Debut album from new Irish songstress Holly McVie, supported by John Grant and Yael Naim! Holly McVie is a 21-year-old (as of 2017) Irish singer/songwriter who was immediately chosen by John Grant to front his own band after hearing her singing. Holly, who started singing before she could speak, grew up listening to blues and Bob Dylan because of her mother's influence and eventually developed a taste for Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, and Gillian Welch. Holly says she is drawn to old country music with simple yet memorable melodies and a timeless sound. Her debut album, "Golden Eagle," contains more than enough material for such a young age. Her parents' divorce, a broken heart, and the hidden pitfalls of her career are just a few of the topics covered in her debut album, "Golden Eagle. I hated growing old because I was afraid of responsibility and change. I was afraid of death, and I knew that the older I got, the less time I had left," she says. The album's title track was born from that experience. Writing songs is like therapy for Holly. After leaving her hometown at the age of 18, Holly worked at a café and played live there. It wasn't long before Simon Raymond, founder of Bella Union and former member of the Cocteau Twins, who owned a studio in the basement of the cafe and was a regular customer, noticed her voice.A timeless melody in her tone reminiscent of Gillian Welch, Patsy Cline, and even Paula Fraser. Her yodel-like, folk-like, and subtly effective hums are addictive. In addition, many artists have been captivated by her melancholy voice and melodies. Yael Naim, John Grant, the Villagers, and Benjamin Clementine, to name a few. Holly's long-awaited debut album, released on the Bella Union label, was recorded in New Castle at the studio of her labelmate and producer Paul Gregory, guitarist for Lanterns on the Lake.
